Code Development
The continual development of codes and standards is critical to the success of fire and life safety. MFIS is continually working with state, national, and international resources to develop codes and standards.
- Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes releases updated codes.
- Michigan Mechanical Rules (Modified version of the International Mechanical Code, 2006 edtion) are in affect as of December 3, 2007
- Michigan Plumbing Rules (Modified version of the International Plumbing Code 2006 edition) are in affect as of January 24, 2008
- Michigan Electric Code (Based on the National Electric Code 2005 edition) are in affect as of November 23, 2007. You can download the part 8 rules (utilized in addition to the the NEC by visiting the BCC web-page).
Michigan Fire Inspector Society has been active in the development of codes and standards across the state. Some of the work is completed by our committee members and some is completed by MFIS members who represent us on NFP A and ICC committees.
