Exchange, Encourage, and Educate in the Interest of Fire Protection
Fire Marshal Mike Kessler of the Comstock Township Fire Department has been an impactful member of the department, since he joined in 1995. He has played a strategic role in the Comstock Public Schools and community through his passion for fire education and safety for students. He regularly visits local schools to provide education, demonstrations and volunteers at school functions to highlight the importance of fire safety. He has long been an educator in the Fire Service, focusing on Children’s School Programs, CPR training at the schools and the business community. Mike also leads the Fire Prevention Program and organizes the annual Fire Prevention Open House for Comstock Township each year. Fire Marshal Kessler is a dedicated, exemplary leader in our community on the importance of fire education and safety.
Derek has been a leader within the Portage Department of Public Safety through his focused achievements in fire prevention, code inspections and public safety education. One of his many accomplishments includes leading the fire inspection program which, under his guidance for the last three years, has seen an annual drop in both, the number of violations written and the number of fire incidents. He has also expanded the department’s public safety programs from bi-annual school education programs to now include numerous educational opportunities within the community. This includes programs dedicated to local geriatric facilities as well as implementing an annual open house during fire prevention week to educate individuals in the community and allow them to speak with public safety personnel. Fire Marshal Henson has been an asset and a leader in implementing the changes needed to help keep our community safe.
Tammi and Lisa have been instrumental team members of the Michigan Fire Inspector’s Society. Both Tammi and Lisa are a part of the Conference Planning Committee, the Summer Golf Outing and build awareness of fire safety through our social media and website. Both are dedicated fire safety advocates who have partnered with MFIS as a resource and education base for fire safety throughout communities in Michigan. Their focus and dedication for our organization and communities is shown through their passionate efforts to establish MFIS as a leader in fire safety and prevention.
Michigan Fire Inspectors Society is proud to honor our members and those who help MFIS meet our mission and goals. We provide annual scholarships to burn survivors, members who wish to further their education, and members who wish to add residential sprinklers to their homes. We also honor a fire inspector and public educator each year through your nominations.
